This is rather old news to our readers, as there's been no move since 2009. I have since remembered a comment my daughter made when coming to visit the new place. Actually, my daughter's comments are usually vignettes, so the gist of her comment has become a parable for me, and as I've sorted through this, I'd like to share.
The starter homestead was really conveniently located for giving directions. I didn't know it at the time of purchase, but it didn't take long to realize there was an exit sign off the main Interstate that went directly to the "intersection" near the corner of the homestead. There is actually an exit sign on I-71, now renamed I-49. Gotta love that job creation. Yet, I digress . . . Anyway, a road with an exit sign is usually one, in pretty good shape, and it was. Upon taking that exit, a little more than two miles, one comes to another road that was maintained by the "Special Roads District." I'm not sure who or what that was, but it also, was black top and a "main country road," if that makes sense. Very easy to find and very little difficulty to navigate. One simply went from a four lane interstate, to a two lane paved road, to about 500 feet on a black top road to my circle drive. All things considered, in retrospect, it was hardly off the beaten path, at all! It was a very good time of learning, while not being completely isolated from what was familiar. My direction had definitely changed, but when it came to "back to basics," I was hardly in a position to tell anyone "how it's done."
I think a lot of folks change directions in life, even follow the voice and leading of YHWH, then proceed to get on their soap box as to how everyone else should do it. I truly think that's where much of the wrong teaching has come from. We tend to focus on the changes in our lives, rather than the One who makes that change. In the four years on the starter homestead, I learned a great deal about sustainability by trial and error. In 2005, I couldn't find too many sources that were teaching natural sustainability according to Torah. I made mistakes, plenty of them; but I was also blessed with some awesome successes. I had built a website for spiritual teaching in 2006 and written two more books, when I heard, it was time to start teaching simple sustainability. It was time to teach the practical application of Scriptural obedience.
I was told specifically to go to another town, which was also specified by name, to do a radio show. Let me tell you, timing is everything. The appointment was made with the Program Director and Sales Manager of the station in that town, but within the month, they were moving. If I hadn't acted when I heard the leading, I'd have missed the opportunity altogether. In less than two months of that show beginning, I was told it was time to move to more land, and again, the well would already be there.
Knowing how important the presence of an independent water supply is, the first place I looked, I saw a meter, and knew that was not the place. I looked at a couple of other places, but when I got to Goshen, I knew, my life was changing forever. Now, let me give you the description of the roads to the Land of Goshen, which is the comment/vignette one of my daughters shared.
Again, the major 4 lane Interstate, going south from the old place. Turning onto a state Highway, two lane, but well marked . . . next a turn onto a a county Highway, still painted but the difference in maintenance and use is obvious, also plenty of curves . . . The next turn is onto a graveled "black top" . . . you'd have to "drive it" to know what I mean. Lots of patches . . . then a turn onto a rock road, not really a gravel road, but literally, red clay and rocks. You're still not here, yet. Next is yet another turn onto Presley Lane which I describe as a cow trail between two garages, toward timber and a ravine, which will bring you to the property line. To get to the fellowship, however; there's a curve, in which you follow the timber to another curve. You will then see a fork in the path, each one more narrow. It is obvious, the only travel on either of these paths is done by individuals purposed to be on the place. There is no general "traffic."
Although I was exactly where YHWH had led me in the "starter homestead," and my way of life became simple Bible basics, the road was still yet, to narrow further.
