The Turning Point

Deuteronomy 28:14, 15 is the turning point.  Beginning with verse 16, the rest of the chapter lists and addresses the consequences of the choice made in these two verses.  It's one simple choice, to be obedient to the Word or disobedient . . .

And thou shalt not go aside from any of the words which I command thee this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.  But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of YHWH thy Elohim, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:

In light of the fact that the prosperity teaching revolved around just a partial verse that precedes this, considering the present condition of our country, it seems quite easy to see the parallel of cause and effect.  The beginning of this chapter truly outlines all humanity needs to live well through our days on this earth, and yet we didn't want that.

Deuteronomy 28 contains 68 verses, with the listing of the curses beginning in the 16th verse.  Verses 16-20 give the exact opposite scenario to the promises.  Those claiming covenant will be cursed in our land, fields businesses, and families.  Our food is no longer food, businesses are shuttered, and how much of our society is affected by the breakdown of the family?  The demise has been slow, and yet it's really only taken about four generations to see the curses, rather than the blessings.  The Great Depression should have been the wake up call for America . . .

We traded the promise of good treasures from the very hand of YHWH, for the American dream, which is based upon material possessions.
